Knowing how to play, but not understanding what you are playing will only get you so far. At SNMS music theory lessons are at the core of our teaching. Once students know why they’re playing the F# rather than a Gb, this understanding can be applied to anything! (if you want to know why its F# rather than Gb, just drop us a message).

Why learn with us?

Our dedicated theory lessons enable our students to play their instruments with more ease, explaining key signatures, rhythm, intervals and more. Once the understanding of these subjects have been understood, it just leaves the playing.

Do we learn paragraphs before we learn sentences? Or theory after the practical driving test? If this was suggested to us, we would say this is a crazy way to learn anything!
We take theory seriously as we believe without this, our students will inevitably hit a glass ceiling. The sky's the only limit we set for our students.

We are well versed in music theory exams! Following the ABRSM syllabus, we currently have a spectacular distinction rate of 90% in grades 1 – 5. This means we really know our stuff and so do our students!
